On Monday, October 19, Horizons Youth Services Job Corps Centers will collaborate with Longs Chapel Preservation Society to work on Phase II of the restoration/preservation project. Phase I was completed in August 2009 by Job Corps student volunteers from various centers including: Whitney M Young, Muhlenberg, North Texas, and Sacramento..
Phase II is a two-week project that will enable students from the welding, carpentry, facility maintenance, and culinary arts trades to learn and practice skills on their Training Achievement Records (TARs). The project's scope of work will consist of site preparation and renovations that will result in a fresh look to the exterior of the chapel, a finished ramp that provides easier and safer access along with a landing for a new entrance, improved walkways, fresh landscaping and additional seating inside of the chapel.
Regular updates, posts and photos will be available on this website to document the progress of the project and provide information to those interested to learn more about the Long’s Chapel Preservation Society.
